#19: "Smear": Long Before the Swift Boat Book, Kerry Attacked Bush!
Many people are under the false impression that the 2004 attacks on military service began with the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth (SBVT) questioning the merit of John Kerry's medals.
The truth is that months before the release of Unfit for Command, the bestselling book by John O'Neill and Jerome Corsi of SBVT, Senator Kerry was openly attacking George Bush's military service and patriotism at his official campaign web site, johnkerry.com!
Look!

Example:

Unfit for Command was not released until August 2004. But, as you can see from the image above, this official Kerry-Edwards press release, which spans almost four printed pages, is from nearly four months earlier, in April!
Can you imagine the uproar in the national liberal media if georgewbush.com had published an official press release questioning Kerry's service? You can just visualize [fill in your favorite network host/anchor here] hyperventilating over such a "mean, personal attack." In this case, however, the liberal media simply turned its back and ignored Kerry's blatantly shameful assault.
So when Franken writes that Democrats tried "to be nicer" (page 104) in the 2004 Presidential campaign, this is just one example that he could not be further from reality.
(By the way, Kerry had a lot of nerve asking President Bush about records when Kerry himself refused numerous requests to fill out and submit Standard Form 180. By doing so, Kerry refused to release all of his military and medical records. In 2005, months after the election, Kerry finally submitted Form 180. Questions still remain, however. [link])
